Atlanta beat New York 83-65 on Wednesday, while a foul call late in the first half drew criticism: after Sabrina Ionescu’s arm hit Angel Reese in the face, officials reviewed the play and upgraded the foul to a Flagrant 1. Reese made both free throws.
Some fans argued Reese initiated most of the contact. The play came with 5.6 seconds left before halftime, when Atlanta led 39-26.
The victory was Atlanta’s fifth straight and secured the No. 4 seed. The Dream finished the regular season 30-14 with home-court advantage; they were due to learn Thursday whether they would face Indiana or Washington in the first round.
