The A’s scored four times in the first inning, including Donovan Walton’s three-run homer, and added a run in the second. Rookie Henry Bolte had four hits, and Shea Langeliers hit his 100th career double. Starter Jeffrey Springs allowed three earned runs on five hits over 4 1/3 innings; he finished the season with a 6.18 ERA in 29 starts.
The Athletics have one series left: four games against the Astros in Sacramento. Houston had not yet clinched a postseason place, and neither team had announced a starter for the opener.
