New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu says the WNBA should change its first-round playoffs from a best-of-three 1-1-1 setup to either a 2-1 schedule or a five-game series. She says the current format does not give the higher seed enough advantage.
In the current first-round format, the higher seed hosts Games 1 and 3, while the lower seed hosts Game 2. New York finished eighth and is matched against top-seeded Minnesota.
The WNBA semifinals are best-of-five series in a 2-2-1 format, and the Finals are best-of-seven series in a 2-2-1-1-1 format.
