Ohio Sen. Jon Husted told Newsmax on Wednesday he wants the war with Iran to end, but not on Iran’s terms. He says the U.S. should emerge stronger, avoid tolls in the Strait of Hormuz and prevent Iran from having a nuclear weapon; he also wants lower gas prices.
Husted’s spokesperson, Olivia Tripodi, said his position has been consistent since the conflict began: he wants the military operation to be “successful but brief” so gas prices can fall for Ohioans. She said enacting a War Powers Resolution would undermine the U.S. negotiating position and potentially put American troops and allies at risk.
In March, Husted told WHIO-TV he had spoken with President Donald Trump to seek a quick, successful conflict and said the U.S. should have no ground troops. He described the goal as degrading Iran’s ability to make nuclear weapons and threaten the U.S. and its Middle Eastern neighbors.
