Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles began a four-day Pacific Palisades rebuild on Sept. 23, bringing more than 500 volunteers to help wildfire survivors with repairs and landscaping; actress Karen Pittman volunteered on opening day.
President and CEO Erin Rank said Habitat LA has approved 160 households for assistance, while another 167 in Pacific Palisades and Malibu meet eligibility requirements and are in the pipeline for rebuilding support. The organization also helps owners of standing homes with extensive smoke damage, including replacement of furnishings, flooring and drywall.
Habitat LA says it has helped thousands of survivors with immediate needs, short-term housing, financial assistance and furnishings, and guides homeowners through permits and construction. On the event’s third day, Samsung will furnish one home with appliances, security and technology as part of a partnership to distribute $1 million in appliances to wildfire-affected households.
