The new “Guyver: Dark Hero” Blu-ray includes an enhanced version; a Forbes reviewer praises its picture quality and says the live-action sequel still holds up more than three decades later. The review recommends it to Guyver fans, and Amazon lists the disc for $26.99.
The release also contains behind-the-scenes footage and interviews, including one with star David Hayter that the reviewer calls funny. In a text interview, manga creator Yoshiki Takaya says poor health means he will be unable to finish the manga. The reviewer discloses that Toy Robot provided the Blu-ray copy.
The reviewer credits Japanese tokusatsu influences and manga links, and says the martial-arts fights fit the setting and the Guyver and Zoanoid suits look better than in the first film. The story follows Sean Barker to a buried alien Relic spaceship; his presence as a Guyver activates it, revealing a damaged Guyver unit that has found a Zoanoid host.
