Greek MPs Dimitris Kairidis and Milena Apostolaki debated migration and Greece's housing crisis in Athens. July's Ceuta events revived memories of past arrivals; Apostolaki cited Eurostat ranking Greece second in poverty and social exclusion.
Kairidis, from ruling New Democracy, said citizens need to feel safe while warning against what he called extremes across the Atlantic. PASOK opposition MP Apostolaki said the Ceuta events were used as a propaganda tool to undermine Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.
Kairidis said Greece had made significant strides since New Democracy returned to power in 2019, while acknowledging it had lagged because of the prolonged economic crisis. Both politicians said Europe should engage Vladimir Putin in dialogue to end the war in Ukraine and that Greece should execute the International Criminal Court's arrest warrant if Benjamin Netanyahu visits.
