Four Israeli opposition chiefs pledge cooperation ahead of October elections

Gadi Eisenkot, Naftali Bennett, Avigdor Liberman and Yair Golan signed a pledge to coordinate before Israel’s October elections, boost turnout and avoid attacking one another. Hosted by Yair Lapid, their meeting did not settle who would lead the bloc’s prime-ministerial bid.

The agreement calls for shared principles for the next government and cooperation through Election Day and afterward. Eisenkot has argued that the leader of the largest party should be the bloc’s candidate for prime minister. Arab party leaders were not invited.

Bennett said he was confident the bloc could win 63 seats. A Maariv poll published Friday put the Zionist opposition bloc at 55 seats and the governing coalition at 49. The opposition leaders also remain divided over election strategy and possible post-election coalition arrangements.
