Verdicts were expected Friday in a Paris trial over the 2022 killing of former Argentina rugby player Federico Martín Aramburú. Prosecutors sought 27 years for Loïk Le Priol, who fired the fatal shots, and 20 for Romain Bouvier, charged with attempted murder.
Investigators said Aramburú and former New Zealand player Shaun Hegarty argued with a group including Le Priol and Bouvier at a Latin Quarter bar; the dispute became a fight, and the two men later pursued the rugby players in a Jeep driven by Le Priol's former girlfriend. Le Priol and Bouvier were linked to France's extreme right. They admitted involvement in the shooting but denied premeditation, saying they acted out of fear. Neither rugby player was armed.
Prosecutors sought three years in prison, with one year suspended, for Lyson Rochemir, Le Priol's former girlfriend, on charges of concealing and destroying evidence. They requested three years, with two years suspended, for the fourth defendant on the same charges.
