Former University of Nebraska-Lincoln employee Brett Powers, 22, was arrested on a felony burglary charge over alleged thefts of football helmets and apparel from team facilities. He is also accused of using his access badge to attend games without tickets.
University staff reported four helmets missing on Sept. 17. News outlets say surveillance footage allegedly showed Powers entering the Osborne Legacy Complex on Aug. 21 and leaving with two white and four black helmets; footage from Sept. 2 and 9 reportedly showed him taking clothing and two Adidas duffel bags. The helmets were valued at $1,500 each, according to 1011 News Now.
Reports say Powers had access through an employee card, although he was not supposed to retain it. His bond was reportedly set at $15,000; he is barred from campus and is due back in court Nov. 5.
