Michigan NICU nurse Kieran L. Ansley, 43, was fired amid allegations and charged with four counts of child abuse after a 4-month-old patient was found with leg fractures and bruising at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in April.
Investigators say the alleged abuse took place during an overnight shift from April 2 to 3. An affidavit says the baby’s mother noticed new bruises and a blue-black tongue during a morning visit. A hospital log recorded 32 entries into the baby’s room that night, 27 involving Ansley; five visits by other nurses totaled four minutes, investigators said.
Other nurses told investigators they had seen Ansley act “aggressive” or “frantic” with patients. His attorney said Ansley was cooperating and that the defense would conduct a thorough investigation. Corewell Health said patient safety is its priority and it has zero tolerance for abuse. The baby’s grandfather told WOOD she is now home and doing well.
