Chukwunonso Eze is charged with murder in the stabbing death of UMass Dartmouth football player Marvins Antoine. Federal sources told Fox News he entered the U.S. on a tourist visa in 2015, overstayed after two extensions and received deferred action in 2022 and 2025.
Providence police said the stabbing happened around 12:30 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot outside Mezzo Lounge after an altercation involving people who had been inside. Antoine, 19, died from a chest stab wound; Kensley Macean, 19, suffered wounds to his head and neck and was taken to Rhode Island Hospital. UMass Dartmouth police later took Eze into custody.
Federal sources said Eze received two visa extensions under the Obama administration before remaining after his authorized stay expired. They said the Biden administration approved deferred action in September 2022; he reapplied in February and October 2025, and the latter request was approved Oct. 8 under the Trump administration. Deferred action temporarily delays removal but does not grant lawful status. DHS said his August 2023 employment-authorization application was denied the next month; a February 2025 application remains pending. DHS said a murder conviction would end his deferred action.
