On “College GameDay,” Nick Saban said he would try to get Mississippi State freshman quarterback Kamario Taylor into the transfer portal if he were coaching. Some fans called it hypocritical, citing Saban’s backing of a bill aimed partly at controlling the portal.
Pat McAfee responded that recruiting a player from another team midseason is illegal and called it ethically suspect. Saban has been involved in the Protect College Sports Act, which is aimed in part at controlling the transfer portal.
Taylor has emerged as a breakout star in 2026. Whether he will transfer after the season remains an open question.
