The report profiles U.S. service members killed or missing amid the Iran war: 19-year-old Pvt. Isabella Gonzales and Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, were killed; the Navy suspended its search for Cmdr. Gabriel Edwards after his helicopter went down.
Feehan was weeks from his wedding and from completing his MBA at Southern Utah University; the university said it will award the degree posthumously. Gonzales had graduated from high school the previous spring before enlisting. Deaths were reported in Iranian strikes in Kuwait, Jordan and Saudi Arabia, and six U.S. service members were killed in a KC-135 crash in Iraq. The Pentagon said about 100 U.S. service members had suffered some level of injury since July 7.
After more than 100 hours of search-and-rescue efforts spanning 14,000 square miles, the Navy suspended operations for Edwards on July 5. The military said there was no indication the helicopter emergency was caused by hostile action. Maj. Bianca Wilkerson began feeling unwell aboard a flight to the Middle East and died September 18 in what the Army called a non-combat-related incident; an autopsy is pending and the death is under investigation.
