The EU pledged more than €710m ($810m) in humanitarian aid for people affected by crises, disasters and conflicts, with most of the funding earmarked for sub-Saharan Africa. The package includes €380m for migration-related measures and €97m for humanitarian needs.

The Commission says the €380m will protect vulnerable migrants and support voluntary return and reintegration. The €97m will address worsening needs linked to conflict, food insecurity, malnutrition and climate shocks, and bolster the Ebola response in the DRC and neighbouring countries. Separate allocations include €7.5m for DRC Ebola response and preparedness, €10m for Great Lakes peace and stability efforts, €103m for vulnerable people in the Palestinian territories and Lebanon, and €52m for humanitarian assistance and emergency preparedness in Ukraine.

At the UN General Assembly, the Commission also announced three Global Gateway investments: a guarantee intended to mobilize private investment in sub-Saharan African health and nutrition businesses, an EU-backed European Investment Bank loan to expand vaccine and biological-medicine production in Colombia, and €60m to strengthen primary healthcare in Ethiopia.
