Ericka Alvarez defended husband Ramses after a viral clip showed her carrying their baby and food at the Sept. 22 Giants-Twins game, prompting online criticism of him. She said she chose to hold their daughter and let him eat first because he hadn’t had a full meal that day.
During the broadcast, announcers Mike Krukow and Duane Kuiper called Alvarez “mom of the year” and poked fun at her husband. Alvarez said the couple initially found the broadcast funny, but changed their view when online users treated the announcers’ imagined narration as evidence of an unequal relationship. She wrote that she texted Ramses a photo of the Field Club menu; he asked for whatever had the shortest line.
Alvarez said she cried after receiving disturbing messages and described Ramses as her greatest supporter through the ordeal. She also said he offered to take the food containers and feed her, but she declined both offers.
