‘The Simpsons’ opens Season 38 on Sept. 27 at 8 p.m. on Fox, with Emma Thompson voicing a reclusive British children’s author who gets drunk and sends Homer scrambling to a book fair meant to save Springfield Elementary. Colin Jost appears as himself.
The premiere, “The Children’s Book Job,” parodies classic children’s books, turning Springfield and its residents into storybook settings and characters. Jost reads his own children’s book to the school audience, which is largely indifferent; the episode streams on Hulu the day after its Fox broadcast.
On Oct. 25, “Treehouse of Horror XXXVII” opens with a “Nightmare Before Christmas” mash-up and features alternate husbands for Marge, a body-swap story involving Homer, Bart and the dog, and witch versions of Patty and Selma. Its Jack in the Box “Munchie Meal of Horror” tie-in includes six glow-in-the-dark collectible cups, already sold out at many locations. The new “Simpsons” movie is scheduled for Sept. 3, 2027, shifted from July 23; it is written, but its working title, “New Simpsons Movie,” has not been approved.
