At Step Up’s 2026 Annual Inspiration Awards in Los Angeles on Sept. 25, Demi Moore said daughters Rumer, Scout and Tallulah taught her acceptance and gave her “a foundation of love.” She also believes in giving them space to be themselves.
Moore said she did not grow up with a stable childhood; in her memoir, she described her parents’ alcoholism and frequent moves across the country to evade debt collectors. Her relationship with her daughters was strained in the years after her split from Ashton Kutcher, but the family worked through the difficulties and grew closer.
On The Jennifer Hudson Show in 2024, Moore said a mother’s job is to love her children and give them room to live their own lives; she said rescuing them is not always best. Tallulah said in 2019 that she admired her mother’s strength but also found it intimidating.
