Elmore Court in Gloucestershire plans a beaver enclosure it says will be the UK's largest, with the habitat due to open within two years. A planned 7km fence will surround the rewilding area, where beavers, wild ponies and pigs are set to join the estate's existing longhorns.
The enclosure is part of a rewilding project launched in 2020, when estate custodian Anselm Guise set aside almost 500 acres. Guise said the animals' natural behaviours would help regenerate the landscape and improve conditions for wildlife, while he worked to balance nature restoration with the estate's economic viability.
