Shin Bet Unit 730 is set to take over Gadi Eisenkot’s security in coming days, after a committee recommended protection through election day. Police raised his threat level to 4 of 6 and urged armed protection, but cited no information indicating an immediate danger to life.
The advisory committee heard the Shin Bet and police positions on Aug. 30 and recommended protection until election day by majority vote, not unanimously. Shin Bet chief David Zini had initially opposed agency protection, citing no intelligence or concrete warning of intent to harm Eisenkot. After a ministerial committee meeting was attended only by its chair, Justice Minister Yariv Levin transferred authority to the Shin Bet to determine the required security measures.
