After two games, the New England Patriots are averaging 11.5 points per game and rank 23rd in EPA/play. Drake Maye and coach Mike Vrabel are stressing decisive quarterback play and an early offensive rhythm ahead of Sunday's game in Jacksonville.
Maye threw three interceptions during an overly aggressive fourth quarter in Seattle that ended in a loss, then appeared to overcorrect against the Steelers by passing up downfield throws. On New England's opening possession, rookie tight end Eli Raridon was uncovered as the first read, but Maye checked down to Rhamondre Stevenson.
Maye compared the situation with last season, when New England was 1-2 after a five-turnover loss in Week 3, then scored 42 points against Carolina and began an 11-game winning streak. Receiver Mack Hollins said his faith in Maye had not changed and called him “a gunslinger.”
