Chicago White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper has died at 70. He spent 33 seasons in the organization from 1988 to 2020, including 18 as pitching coach, and was with the club when it won the 2005 World Series.
The 2005 White Sox became the first team since the 1928 New York Yankees to throw four consecutive complete games in one postseason. From 2003 to 2020, Chicago’s pitching staff ranked fourth in baseball in FanGraphs’ version of WAR.
White Sox general manager Chris Getz said Cooper made many pitchers better. Former executive Ken Williams called him one of the best pitching coaches he had seen.
