Reliever Taylor Clarke will start Arizona’s bullpen game against San Diego on Sept. 26, with two games left and the Diamondbacks one game behind Philadelphia for the National League’s final wild-card spot. The Phillies’ game was delayed by rain before first pitch.
Clarke’s start was originally Corbin Burnes’ rotation spot; Burnes went on the injured list Friday with right shoulder inflammation. It will be Clarke’s second start this season. He also opened a bullpen game against Philadelphia on Sept. 2, when Arizona won 1-0.
Catcher Gabriel Moreno left Friday’s series opener in the seventh inning after feeling hamstring discomfort while running the bases. Arizona recalled Adrian Del Castillo from Triple-A Reno for catching depth, with Moreno expected to serve as designated hitter Saturday, and designated outfielder Jesus Sanchez for assignment. Sanchez went 2-for-15 in six games after Arizona claimed him from the Blue Jays on Sept. 14, taking on more than $400,000 in salary.
