Darrell Long was convicted Tuesday of attempted first-degree murder and four other charges for shooting his ex-wife, Dawn, five times at her Lebanon County home in March 2025. PEOPLE reported the attack followed her child-support filing; Dawn survived.
Prosecutors said Long went to Dawn’s home while she was asleep on a living-room couch and attacked her with a .22-caliber rifle. She was shot in the leg and hand; prosecutors said one bullet passed through her knee and another hit her thigh. A shot to her hand destroyed her left index finger, and she was able to call 911.
District Attorney Pier Hess Graf told PEOPLE that Long wanted Dawn to know who was attacking her and said he believed “every woman needs to be taught a lesson.” Hess Graf said Long remained proud of the shooting and blamed Dawn for his decision. Long is awaiting sentencing.
