Chicago hosts Miami at 1:20 p.m. CT Thursday in the series finale at Wrigley after losing its first two games. Matthew Boyd faces Tyler Phillips; Boyd allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits in five innings at Cincinnati, but has a 5.53 ERA at home.
Chicago scored three runs in five innings against Phillips on Sept. 6 in Miami, including Pete Crow-Armstrong’s 40th homer of the season. In two starts since, Phillips has not made it through the fourth inning or thrown more than 68 pitches.
This is the 11th of the Cubs’ 52 series this season in which they have lost the first two games. They are 7-3 in the third game of those series, including 3-2 at home, and 5-1 in home games on Thursdays this year.
