Chicago is scheduled to face Boston at the Rays’ Tropicana Field on Sunday at 2:05 p.m. CT in Game 162. Before that matchup, the Cubs have played 34 modern-era neutral-site games, going 13-18 in the regular season and 1-2 in the World Series.
Neutral-site designations varied: after a 1911 fire at the Polo Grounds, Cubs-Giants games moved to Hilltop Park. Retrosheet also counts 12 Cubs-Braves games at Fenway in 1914–15, though the Braves used Fenway as their home for 87 games while awaiting Braves Field. Hurricane Ike moved two Cubs-Astros games from Houston to Milwaukee in 2008.
The Cubs split the 2000 Tokyo series against the Mets, MLB’s first games outside North America. Later highlights included a 7-1 win over Pittsburgh in the 2019 Little League Classic, a 4-2 win over Cincinnati in the 2022 Field of Dreams Game, a split with St. Louis in London in 2023 and two losses to the Dodgers in Tokyo in 2025. In Milwaukee in 2008, Carlos Zambrano threw the first neutral-site no-hitter; the next day Chicago became MLB’s first team to throw a no-hitter and a one-hitter in consecutive games.
