University Hospital in Coventry has opened a two-room bereavement suite for families affected by baby loss, away from the Labour Ward with soundproofing and a separate entrance. Families who experienced loss helped fund items including sofas and artwork.
Ceri Key and her husband Billy raised £25,000 for the suite after losing their baby Rufus in 2020. Key said being on a postnatal ward with Rufus and living babies had been extremely distressing. Emma and Jordan Fellows raised £18,000 after losing twins, while Miesha Virdi raised more than £4,700 after her daughter Aria died a few hours after birth in March 2024.
Hospital Director of Midwifery Mara Tonks said it was overwhelming to see the impact of the opening on families. She said families involved felt their care would have been different if a facility like this had been available.
