The Connecticut Sun beat the Toronto Tempo 95-81 Wednesday in their final game at Mohegan Sun Arena. Aaliyah Edwards thanked fans, calling Connecticut “the basketball capital of the world”; the franchise is moving to Houston after its sale to Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta.
Ashlon Jackson led Connecticut with 18 points off the bench; Raegan Beers scored 17 and Edwards had 16. Toronto’s Kiki Rice finished with a game-high 28 points.
The Sun went 461-375 in Connecticut, reaching four WNBA Finals and making 16 playoff appearances. The relocated team has been reported to be a revived version of the Houston Comets; ESPN and the NBA also posted tributes to the franchise’s final game in Connecticut.
