Competitive eater and “The Amazing Race” contestant Tim Janus died Sept. 16 at 49 from complications following a long battle with cancer, Major League Eating said. Known as “Eater X,” he competed on the show’s 30th season in 2018.
Major League Eating said Janus competed professionally from 2006 to 2018 and reached No. 2 in world rankings, behind Joey Chestnut. His titles included world championships in tiramisu (four pounds in six minutes), ramen (10.5 pounds in eight minutes) and nigiri sushi (141 pieces in six minutes).
At Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest in 2010, Janus ate 45 hot dogs and placed second to Chestnut, who ate 54. Janus also won $100,000 on “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?,” according to TMZ, and was inducted into Major League Eating’s Hall of Fame.
