Cigna has announced an OpenAI partnership to support patients with complex conditions, with cancer patients as the first use case. The planned tools would help patients find resources and coordinate care, while giving care managers information to identify support needs.
The collaboration is intended to use OpenAI's models to surface clinical, pharmacy, behavioral and benefits information about patients' needs. Care managers could combine it with patient details and side effects to chart specific needs throughout the care journey and determine suitable support.
Optum has launched an AI marketplace for healthcare companies, payer and provider organizations. An InsuranceBusiness-cited report found two-thirds of policyholders' biggest concern was being unable to reach a human when needed, and 90% said knowing they were interacting with AI was very or extremely important. Trust in AI answers was roughly two-thirds for general insurance or coverage questions, versus 45% for claim-filing information. The article also notes controversy over AI in patient-claim decisions; insurers have said human experts make the final decisions.
