The 2-0 Kansas City Chiefs visit the winless Miami Dolphins on Sunday, but coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes say they are focused on improving rather than worrying about a trap game. Mahomes pointed to converting red-zone chances into touchdowns as one area to work.
Mahomes said the Chiefs had opportunities to score touchdowns but kicked field goals in the red zone. He cited miscommunication, route depth and his own reads as details the offense needs to improve.
Reid praised first-year Dolphins coach Jeff Hafley and his staff as sound. Mahomes said Miami’s young roster and unfamiliar coaching staff present a different challenge after Kansas City faced veteran defensive coordinators in its first two games; he also noted former Texas Tech teammates on Miami, including rookie linebacker Jacob Rodriguez.
