Before Sunday's Week 3 matchup at Ford Field, Gang Green Nation deputy manager MacGregor Wells predicted Lions receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown would trouble the Jets' secondary, unless New York's pass rush leaves quarterback Jared Goff without time to find him.
Wells said the Jets' defense still has much to prove after holding the Titans and Packers to fewer than 200 total yards each in the first two weeks; he cited Tennessee's weak offense and Green Bay's injury-hit offensive line as context. NFL Next Gen Stats credited rookie edge rusher David Bailey with 11 pressures and two sacks on 47 pass rushes through Week 2, but Wells said two games are too few to call the No. 2 pick the draft's steal.
Wells described the Jets' offense as a work in progress. He said quarterback Geno Smith has avoided turnovers so far but remains vulnerable to poor decisions and pressure; Smith can execute when protected, while the team may struggle if the offensive line gives way. Wells also said New York should involve first-round tight end Kenyon Sadiq more and get more from running back Breece Hall.
