Hurricane Polo, now a Category 4 with sustained winds near 155 mph, is moving northwest offshore as its rainbands bring heavy rain and dangerous surf to southwestern Mexico. AccuWeather forecasts landfall on Baja California late Sunday night into Monday.
Additional rainfall of 2–4 inches is expected in coastal parts of Michoacán, Colima, northern and southern Jalisco, and Nayarit, with isolated totals up to 6 inches. The National Hurricane Center warned that swells could cause life-threatening surf, rip currents and coastal flooding.
AccuWeather also projected Polo would weaken to Category 2 as it crossed the Baja California peninsula north of Cabo San Lucas. Authorities in Cabo San Lucas have begun restricting beach access and closed the local harbor.
