Schlittler has a 1.94 ERA through 32 starts before Thursday’s season finale against Tampa Bay. Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports the Yankees right-hander can become the third starter in franchise history to finish a season below 2.00.
He is 14-6 with 234 strikeouts and 47 walks across 190⅔ innings. After debuting in July 2025, he made 14 starts with a 2.96 ERA.
New York is locked into the AL’s No. 4 seed and will host the No. 5 seed in a best-of-three Wild Card series; the winner will face Tampa Bay in the Division Series, which starts Oct. 3. A Boston rematch is considered likely. Schlittler is 3-1 with a 0.56 ERA and 39 strikeouts against the Red Sox; on normal rest, he would line up for Game 2 rather than the likely Tuesday opener.
