Brunson opens SNL Season 52; Wickline parodies Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei

Jalen Brunson hosted the Season 52 premiere of “Saturday Night Live”; NBC said he was the first NBA player to host since LeBron James in 2007. Katseye performed, while Jane Wickline spoofed Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei’s AI warnings on “Weekend Update.”

When Che asked how the company would stop AI from killing everyone, Wickline’s Amodei struggled to answer, later calling AI “a tool for building weapons” and urging viewers to pressure him to stop. The parody referenced Amodei’s public warnings about risks from the technology Anthropic builds.

Brunson, named NBA Finals MVP after leading the Knicks to their first championship since 1973, compared hosting with a Finals game in his monologue. Karl-Anthony Towns, Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby and Josh Hart joined him onstage after questioning him; Hart asked whether Brunson had really taken a $113 million pay cut to re-sign. Katseye made its SNL debut with “Animal” and “Hootie Frutti” from its EP “Wild,” performing as a four-piece. Daniela Avanzini, Lara Raj, Megan Skiendiel and Yoonchae Jeung performed; Manon Bannerman and Sophia Laforteza were on hiatus to focus on their mental health, NBC reported.
