A 28-year-old British climber died after falling about 60m into a vertical gully while descending Torrecerredo in northern Spain on Thursday. Spanish authorities said he was about 20m from the summit; his identity has not been given.
Emergency services were called at about 13:45 local time, the Civil Guard said. Police and an air unit attended; two mountain specialists were lowered by winch to the eastern face, and a mountain rescue unit recovered the climber’s body and belongings. His body was taken to Asturias’ Institute of Legal Medicine. The UK Foreign Office said it was in contact with local authorities.
