Grounded since ANAC suspended its certificate in early September, Brazil’s Total Linhas Aéreas has begun returning some leased Boeing planes to the manufacturer to reduce financial obligations, ch-aviation reports. It reportedly lost its Correios mail contract.
ANAC called the suspension “precautionary and provisional”; the airline’s air operator certificate (AOC) was not fully revoked and could be regained if it resolves the audit issues. The audit found deficiencies in Total’s operating and management systems and concerns about the airworthiness of its aging fleet. Without a valid AOC, it cannot legally operate or sell passenger flights.
Total said earlier in September it was “working to reverse” ANAC’s decision but gave no timeline for resuming flights. To regain its certificate, it must demonstrate to regulators that its Operational Safety Management System (SGSO) and Continued Analysis and Surveillance System (SASC) are operating correctly.
