San Francisco signed receiver Brandin Cooks to its practice squad as it seeks help for a receiving corps hit by Mike Evans’ hip injury; Evans is day-to-day. The 49ers hope Cooks can help Brock Purdy, but his activation for Sunday’s game against Arizona is uncertain.
According to San Francisco Chronicle reporter Harrison Rich, Cooks said John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan FaceTimed him, and joining the 49ers was “kind of a no-brainer.” He praised Shanahan’s offensive mind and said he wants to prove he can still play at a high level.
Cooks attended his first practice Wednesday. He had 24 receptions for 279 yards last season while playing for the New Orleans Saints and Buffalo Bills.
