Tomokazu Miura, 25, was arrested in Japan on suspicion of attempted murder after allegedly throwing his 4- and 1-year-old daughters from a sixth-floor balcony on Sept. 26. Both survived and were hospitalized with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.
The incident occurred around 4:20 a.m. local time in Kakamigahara, Gifu Prefecture, according to Japanese media reports. The girls landed on mats laid below the building and were conscious during transport. At 11:30 p.m. the night before, Miura's wife called police and reported that he had grabbed her arm during an argument. Police spoke with her outside the apartment; reports say Miura locked himself inside and allegedly threw the girls as officers were about to enter.
A nearby resident who said they witnessed Miura being taken away told Nagoya TV News that he said he "intended to die with them." Japanese media reports also said Miura remained silent during questioning. PEOPLE said it was unable to reach Gifu Prefectural Police for comment.
