Charlbury Museum & Heritage Centre has received national accreditation through Arts Council England’s UK Museum Accreditation scheme. The volunteer-run Oxfordshire charity said the recognition would put it in a stronger position to seek grants and other outside funding.
Founded in 1949, the charity documents the history of Charlbury, an ancient Cotswold market town. Its exhibits include a model of the Market House, demolished in the 1870s, and a restored Victorian wagon.
The museum said accreditation followed three years of work by volunteers, stewards and supporters. It described the award as an opportunity to expand and professionalise its work preserving Charlbury’s heritage.
