Booker and Christie in 2028 presidential talk; Sherrill and Kim floated for VP or Cabinet

2028 presidential runs for Cory Booker and Chris Christie are being discussed, while Mikie Sherrill and Andy Kim are mentioned for VP or Cabinet roles. Booker will decide after his fall Senate race; Christie says he’d consider a bid based on the GOP’s midterm results.

Christie said in New Hampshire he would consider a third campaign if Republicans lose heavily in November’s midterms and seek to move the party beyond Trump; he ran in 2016 and 2024. Booker exited the 2020 Democratic primary early.

Sherrill’s national-role speculation comes amid the fallout from her administration’s investigation into Lt. Gov. Dale Caldwell. A 61-page report found Caldwell engaged in sexual harassment and violated ethics rules; Sherrill called for his resignation, and Caldwell stepped down Friday while continuing to deny the allegations. Sherrill paused out-of-state campaign travel during the probe; under the state constitution, the lieutenant governor serves as acting governor when she leaves. Senate President Nick Scutari will take over during her absences until she names a replacement within 45 days.
