Toronto was eliminated from 2026 postseason contention after losing the first game of a doubleheader against Baltimore. A sharp drop in power was a significant factor: the Blue Jays ranked 30th in MLB with 150 home runs as of Thursday.
That was a steep reversal from 2025, when Toronto came two outs from winning the World Series. The Blue Jays hit 28 home runs in 18 postseason games and posted an .823 team OPS. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Ernie Clement had strong playoff runs, and Clement set the record for most hits in a postseason.
Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter wrote Wednesday that Guerrero had nine home runs in 596 plate appearances and did not hit his first home run at Rogers Centre until Sept. 13. The article says his production was below expectations after signing a $500 million extension and argues Toronto’s chance to win a World Series in 2027 starts with him.
