Blockaded Oleshky receives 4 metric tons of food by cargo drone, Ukraine says

Ukraine says its forces delivered 4 metric tons of food by cargo drone to Oleshky, a city blockaded under Russian occupation. Governor Oleksandr Prokudin says Russia holds about 2,000 people there, including nearly 50 children, all without food, electricity or water.

Oleshky had been blockaded for months, and no food had reached the city since May before Sunday's drop. The UN says its last shop closed in January. Heavily mined terrain makes leaving life-threatening, and all attempts to establish a humanitarian corridor to evacuate residents have failed.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov acknowledged the critical situation last week but accused Ukraine’s army of preventing food deliveries through drone strikes. Prokudin accused occupying forces of mistreating residents who tried to collect the aid. On Friday, Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Michael O’Flaherty called for an immediate local ceasefire to allow aid in and civilians out.
