Bill Gates said he does not use AI for personal relationships or socialize with it, telling NBC’s “Meet the Press” he is not asking the technology whether it likes him or whether he is a nice person. He said he is fortunate to have family and friends.
Gates has also urged U.S. lawmakers to require safeguards and monitoring for AI, saying self-regulation is not enough. He said mandatory rules would add some overhead for the industry but would not dramatically slow its work.
In an Aug. 26 essay, Gates proposed that governments consider “Human Reserved” work—tasks reserved for people—while acknowledging that defining the category would be complicated and could vary by country. He said customer service, sales, software engineering and paralegal jobs may be affected early, and predicted many jobs would disappear forever, with entry- and mid-level roles potentially most affected.
