Indiana beat Northwestern 29-23 Friday to extend its winning streak to 20 games, but needed a fourth-quarter touchdown and then recovered an onside kick inside the final minute to seal the win. Lee Beebe Jr. rushed for 203 yards after Turbo Richard left with a foot injury.
Northwestern quarterback Aidan Chiles completed 22 of 29 passes for 293 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another. Tight end Luke Dehnicke caught seven passes for 140 yards. Indiana’s defense recorded seven tackles for loss and four sacks, but Northwestern scored after the Hoosiers had kept opponents scoreless for 10 quarters.
Richard, who had averaged 105 rushing yards in his first three games, left early in the second quarter and did not return. Reserve Khobie Martin was out with a forearm fracture, leaving Indiana thin at tailback; coach Curt Cignetti offered no notable injury update at halftime. Indiana committed eight penalties for 60 yards, while a Northwestern face-mask penalty extended the possession that ended in Beebe’s decisive touchdown.
