New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani was called out by Irish football outlet Balls.ie over what appeared to be his use of “Cork FC” for Cork City FC during a soccer discussion with Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin at the New York Irish Center.
Balls.ie called Mamdani’s Irish-football knowledge a “ball-knowing blackspot.” Cork City leads the League of Ireland Men’s First Division, the second tier, by 21 points with four games remaining.
Mamdani supports Arsenal, played football at high school and college in the US, and still plays recreationally. He also invested in Spanish club Real Oviedo during its 2012 crowdfunding campaign.
