Dan Aykroyd says he and Bill Murray took two police bikes from the “Ghostbusters II” motor pool into closed Central Park, chasing each other for about an hour with lights and sirens on. They were production vehicles, not active NYPD motorcycles.
In a 2021 appearance on “The Tonight Show,” Aykroyd said they pulled over pedestrians during the ride; Murray joked that they were effectively helping.
AFI records say principal photography was scheduled to begin in New York on Nov. 28, 1988, but those records do not independently confirm the motorcycle ride; the account comes from Aykroyd.
