At least 16 U.S. trucking, delivery and transport companies filed for Chapter 7 or 11 bankruptcy from late August through Sept. 21, according to federal court filings reviewed by FreightWaves. Filings show financial strain but don't prove diesel prices caused each case.
Named Chapter 11 filers included Globemaster Incorporated, Xoco Transport, Jett Transport & Materials, CLJ Transporting, Mill Creek Logistics-Illinois, RP Hay Hauling, Truckload LLC and Pacer Transport. Chapter 7 filers included A&B Transportation Inc., T Yorkman Trucking LLC, Blue Star Transports LLC, Jackdollars Transport LLC, Eulogia Logistics Inc., Rothchild Transportation LLC and C. Pride Transport Inc.
The American Transportation Research Institute's 2026 report put industry-average truck operating costs at $2.336 per mile in 2025, up 3.4% from 2024; excluding fuel, costs rose 4.2% to $1.854 per mile. The report said carriers facing rising costs and stagnant rates cut truck counts by 2.4%, while an average 10% of trucks remained unseated. DAT analyst Dean Croke told TT News diesel was nearly double its year-earlier price; he said spot-market carriers were especially squeezed, while larger contract carriers were somewhat insulated.
