Houston moved Jose Altuve from fifth to leadoff for Wednesday’s game against the Mariners, filling Jeremy Peña’s usual spot as the infielder, day-to-day with a wrist injury, remained on the bench. Altuve also starts at second base after two hits Tuesday.
Houston beat Seattle 7-0 in Tuesday’s series opener. Right-hander Ethan Pecko was scheduled to start Game 2.
Houston and the Texas Rangers entered Wednesday with identical 78-79 overall records in the AL West race. The Astros were scheduled to begin a four-game series against the Athletics on Thursday.
