The University of Arizona has restricted its Sigma Tau Gamma chapter to essential business meetings while investigating allegations that new members were forced to consume large amounts of alcohol and live goldfish, and faced degradation and threats, in fall 2025.
A letter from senior student rights and responsibilities coordinator Jasmin Hayes said the chapter was under investigation for multiple alleged student-code violations, including endangering, threatening or causing physical harm to members of the campus community. Hayes warned that repeat violations or attempts to contact or interfere with witnesses could bring more severe consequences.
In May, KOLD reported that a separate University of Arizona fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon, was placed on 12 months’ probation and fined $4,000 over hazing-related code violations. KOLD also reported that six university fraternity chapters were investigated for hazing in 2026.
